What is Waste to Compose machine?

How do we achieve a volume reduction of 85-90%?

WTC’ uses special microorganisms to decompose all kinds of organic waste into compost within 24 hrs with a  volume reduction of 85-90%. The entire process is natural and biological.

Ours ‘WTC’ is a fully automatic and highly compact composting machine which uses special microorganisms to break down and decompose all kinds of organic waste into compost within 24 hrs with a volume reduction of 85-90%. The entire process is natural and biological. Our special microorganisms thrive in high temperature and are effective even in high acidic or salty conditions. The ‘WTC’ has a composting tank, heater, Shredder and an exhaust system.

When organic waste is added to it, the heater turns ON and the composting tank gets heated. Due to this, the water content in the organic waste is evaporated and it goes out to the atmosphere as water vapor through the exhaust system. As any organic waste contains 70-80% water content, we achieve 70-80% volume  reduction  at this stage itself.

At the same time, our special microorganisms then decompose the organic waste into compost, and this happens-within 24 hours. That’s how we achieve 85-90% volume reduction. The process is completely noiseless.

Is there any smell?

There is no smell or odor of any sort as it is connected directly to sewage line/storm water drain

 Are any harmful gases emitted?

No gases of any sort are emitted as there is aerobic digestion during the whole process i.e. continuous air intake and air outlet.

 Is any operator needed for the machine?

No. The machine is fully automatic, the waste collector has to just open the waste input door, dump the waste and  forget about it.

 Do you have to add bacteria culture every time?

Never      The WTC initially comes with sawdust mixed with special bacteria culture till half level of the composting tank in the machine. The bacteria reproduces continuously during the operation, so there is no need of new addition ever. Also during removal of compost, some portion of it is to be retained in the machine for future composting of waste.

Are these bacteria harmful?

Not at all as they grow only in high temperature of 55℃ to 85℃. So they do not pose any threat to humans and are free of any pathogens.

 Can the compost be used directly in plants?

Yes. The compost can be used directly in garden or plants. However, as it is concentrated it should be mixed with soil and used in the proportion of 5:1 ratio (soil :compost).

 What if any plastic bag or paper is put in by mistake?

Since there is no crushing or grinding taking place during the operation, no harm will be caused to the compost or the machine. While putting the waste the next day the waste collector can see the bag or paper and remove it easily. However, we recommend strict segregation of compostable & non-compostable items by the users to avoid such instances.

 What will happen if any hard or metal object goes into the WTC ?

By chance if any hard or metal object goes into the machine, it can interfere with the rotating blades and cause them to break. By hard objects we mean coconut shells, big bones or branches of trees and metal objects like steel rods. Even then any inorganic or non-compostable items are strictly prohibited.

 Does load shedding affect the operation of WTC?

No. The operating time of WTC is only 6-12 hrs. Thus, power cuts for few hours would not affect the composting process.
