Biomass powered generation has found use in various on-grid and off-grid applications. These applications have shined in off-grid scenarios where conventional distribution grids have failed to reach where it has made basic requirements such as lighting feasible to a large number of rural low income consumers.


Biomass powered generation comes in a large choice of ratings. In off-grid applications where the source is limited, if the load exceeds the supply beyond its ratings, the entire system may trip. Moreover, since many such installations aim at providing basic facilities such as lighting which are modest in their load requirement, it is very attractive to consider load limiting from a technical, operational as well as commercial standpoint.
