Captive Power

Aartech’s offerings to the Captive Power Generation

– Captive Power

Thanks for your interest in Aartech’s offerings to the captive power field. Whether you are a power professional, consultant, EPC contractor, project planner, system integrator or research / design / operation / maintenance / testing / commissioning engineer, we hope that you find our solutions of interest and look forward to hear from you.

With the advent of deregulation and policy directives for private investments in the power sector, many industries have found it of interest to invest in their own captive power plant (CPP). While some industries focus to use the CPP to cater to their own plant loads reliably, especially their sensitive and critical loads (to the extent of remaining islanded from the grid) and maintain required power quality by remaining islanded from the grid if required, others choose to take advantage of the export tariffs especially during periods where their in-house consumption is low.

Process Continuity

In a typical captive power plant, there may be different scheduled allocations for the generated power, such as in-house load, export power etc. These support many operations of periodic as well as continuous nature with varying process time constants during which it may be a critical requirement for some of the electrical loads, other than the typical critical auxiliaries of the captive power plant, such as pumps, motors, compressors, drives etc. to be supported with electrical power.

Thus it is important to maintain the process continuity of all the critical auxiliaries in the plant in the event of a contingency. With an experience of over 100’s of installations and decades of service, including references in the captive power plant industry, Aartech’s BTS 2000 Fast Bus Transfer Systems provides proven advanced numerical microprocessor based fast bus transfer solutions of ensuring safe and reliable bus transfer operations with the best international benchmarks. These systems are employed in various configurations depending on the design, operational philosophy, economy and wish-list of the end user although a uni-to-station or a three breaker main-tie-main configuration are the most typical. While traditionally, these schemes have been applied to only the critical boards, they are increasingly being considered for other switchboards including LT switchboards as well to establish a more robust and redundant operation in plants.

Aartech is established and recognized in the field of bus transfer internationally, with several internationally published papers, approvals from major switchgear manufacturers, consultants, turnkey EPC contractors as established with performance certificates from our esteemed end users.

Aartech’s BTS 2000 is in operation at several captive power plants of various ratings for many years now.

Control & Automation

Aartech’s Control & Relay Panels (CRP) SSD is organized to offer specialized custom built, integrated software engineered solutions involving aspects of protection, metering, communications and control for distributed automation, SCADA and remote telemetry based control and automation solutions.

Reliable Engine Starting

Backup DG Sets are the last line of defense against a total AC failure. However, it is observed that they may not operate on demand due to problems in the batteries, maintenance issues etc. Similarly fire engines are considered a very critical fire safety protection in such installations.

Aartech’s KranKing Utlracapacitors can provide reliable engine starting solutions to ensure robust electrical support to the batteries at the time of engine cranking. A portable jump start system can also effectively provide for an arrangement to support the operations of multiple DG sets in a DG plant.

Fault Current Limiting

Fault levels of the MV switchboards may get compromised during re-configurations / capacity additions or operational considerations such as closing of tie breakers and grid interconnections. Even having fault levels within breaker handling capabilities, there is a considered need to reduce the fault energy, for eg. in the event of a transformer fault where severe consequential damages have been known to happen.

Aartech’s fault current limiting solutions provided as a value added system integrator of M/s G&W USA offers internationally proven CLiP® Fault Current Limiter to customers all over Asia.

Load Limiting

The control arrangements in a power plant are naturally elaborate and extensive. Usually, circuit faults in the control wiring are handled by use of HRC fuses or MCBs. Both require manual intervention for restoration.

Aartech’s load limiter system solutions in the form of Load Checker can act as an automatic resettable control fuse and thus provide for minimum downtime and repair/replacement costs and efforts.

Protection

A complete range of powerful yet economic, state-of-the-art microprocessor based protection solutions for a variety of standard feeder, transformer and motor protection as well as special customer defined schemes that require integration of features such as standard protection with special requirements such as islanding, bus transfer, load shedding, synchronization, SCADA interface and automation, developed through international collaboration are offered by Aartech’s Relay SSD.
