Material Handling

Aartech’s offerings to the  Material Handling  field

– Material Handling

Thanks for your interest in Aartech’s offerings to the material handling sector. Whether you are an equipment manufacturer, consultant, contractor, project planner, system integrator or research / design / operation / maintenance / testing / commissioning engineer, we hope that you find our solutions of interest and look forward to hear from you.

Material handling and logistics are now increasingly energy conscious and engaging smart technologies to address their growing concerns. Oil crisis, dependence on non-renewable resources, environmental pollution, fuel economy, safety and economy are driving the industry towards introduction of new technologies, newer performance benchmarks and an ever increasing, varied and discerning consumer base – from the extremely price sensitive to the performance driven.

Reliable Engine Starting

Material handling at sites are generally done by huge vehicles mounted by specialised equipments. While there is a growing trend of running an all-electric operation, there are several constraints such as availability of charging infrastructure, life, costs etc. that motivate the use of IC engine based vehicles for such operations. In such vehicles, Batteries are sized for their power requirements and not for the energy requirements. Further, old batteries, batteries discharged due to running houseloads deliberately or accidently, or cold weather conditions can result in unsuccessful engine starting attempts that can result in minor inconveniences like jump starts or push starts (not feasible for larger vehicles) to major delays, holdups and consequential damages for personal as well as commercial operations.

Commercial Heavy Vehicles rely on reliable operations to meet the schedule and commitments of their offered services, which is directly related to their revenues and logistics. It is not uncommon to find fleet capacity over-sizing, battery charging stations, spares and service vehicles provided to deal with an odd vehicle down due to starting issues. Battery banks / carts may not be recharged at all times, or may not be available for repeated starts of multiple vehicles, say on a cold morning. The logistics of replacement of batteries or in-situ charging are also not trivial in many cases. KranKing™ Ultracapacitors can be employed in onboard installations for vehicles, service station carts for fleet operations, service vehicle mounted form for a work site, to largely address such issues.

KranKing™ Ultracapacitors can not only enhance engine starting performance and reliability by enhancing robust electrical support to the batteries, but reduce the extent of voltage dips thus substantially improving the performance of the mounted peripherals and reduce the wear and tear on the components. Its portable jump start products offer convenience and reliability, since they can charge up from a weak battery, and help crank the same engine in situ. This can be particularly useful for fleet applications during winter conditions or remote locations.

Puls Power

Several material handling applications such as portable vehicles, forklifts etc. perform operations in closed facilities such as workshops and are all-electric since there is no scope for any polluting exhaust gases in such areas. They typically have a continuously varying duty cycle with temporary pulses of high power required to operate the concerned loads. This imposes a lot of demand on the batteries which challenges their life and reliability and reduces their ROI. There is also a need to ensure that sensitive onboard electronics of such equipments are not affected by temporary dips in the battery supply due to occasional duty of high power loads.

Also, braking energy typically lost in heat by way of braking resistors can be stored for reuse with the concept of regenerative braking. This technology is of use in micro hybrid, mini hybrid or fully hybrid equipments by providing onboard systems for effective capture, conversion and deployment of braking energy. FaraDigm® Ultracapacitors provide a effective battery replacement / backup arrangement technically optimized for such pulse power requirements with smaller weight, volume and footprint – important considerations for such applications.

FaraDigm® Ultracapacitors have proven performances for such applications with numerous advantages over battery based systems.
