Aartech’s offerings to the Pharmaceutical Industry

– Pharmaceuical Industry

Thanks for your interest in Aartech’s offerings to the pharmaceutical industry. Whether you are a pharmaceutical industry professional, consultant, EPC contractor, project planner, system integrator or research / design / operation / maintenance / testing / commissioning engineer, we hope that you find our solutions of interest and look forward to hear from you.

The pharmaceutical industry requires an extremely tight control over processes which are inter-dependent on the quality of power supply services. While the technologies for running such plants and their interconnected logistics have matured tremendously over the years, there continue to be several key concerns in its operations. There is a very high focus today on improved plant utilizations with heightened revenue consciousness, bottom-line efficiencies, productivity benchmarks and system improvement requirements.

W

Process Continuity

In a typical pharmaceutical installation, there are many operations of periodic as well as continuous nature with varying process time constants during which it may be a critical requirement for some of the electrical loads, such as pumps, motors, compressors, drives etc. to be supported with electrical power. Many plants have their own captive power for inhouse consumption, reliable power availability to critical processes, improved power quality as well as power export which may operate in grid connected or islanded configuration. Thus it is important to maintain the process continuity of all the critical auxiliaries in the plant in the event of a contingency. With an experience of over 100’s of installations and decades of service, Aartech’s BTS 2000 Fast Bus Transfer Systems provides proven advanced numerical microprocessor based fast bus transfer solutions of ensuring safe and reliable bus transfer operations with the best international benchmarks. These systems are employed in various configurations depending on the design, operational philosophy, economy and wish-list of the end user although a three breaker main-tie-main configuration is the most typical. While traditionally, these schemes have been applied to only the critical boards, they are increasingly being considered for other switchboards including LT switchboards as well to establish a more robust and redundant operation in plants.

Aartech is established and recognized in the field of bus transfer internationally, with several internationally published papers, approvals from major switchgear manufacturers, consultants, turnkey EPC contractors as established with performance certificates from our esteemed end users.

Uninterrupted Power Supply (UPS)

Sensitive Electrical Loads, especially in a super critical medical environment require superior power quality. Conventional UPS are characterized by high Total Cost of Ownership (TCO) when factors such as efficiency loss, battery replacements and indoor installations are taken into account. Also the increasing element of criticality and interdependence demand full facility protection rather than limited protection of sensitive loads.

An offline UPS that can meet the desired power quality benchmarks and provide for enough backup to support the operations till backup DG sets come into service can have a direct impact on all the above factors and offer a much more attractive TCO. Further, an offline UPS can actually be integrated at the Medium Voltage (MV) level and provide for full facility protection of critical installations. An outdoor installation also provides for independent operation and maintenance access, without any interference to the controlled facilities.

Aartech is associated as a value added system reseller with M/s S&C USA for their PureWave UPS , a proven power quality product with a large and successful installation base worldwide.

S&C’s PureWave UPS System protects power-sensitive equipment from the detrimental effects of disturbances such as voltage sags, surges, transients, momentary disruptions, and complete outages. This unique Smart Grid solution supports the entire load with clean power for up to 60 seconds, eliminating 99% of all power quality problems. It supports reduced loads for up to 180 seconds. A high-efficiency static switch provides immediate — 2- to 4-millisecond — response. Also on offer is an extended run-time version of the UPS, the PureWave UPS-XT.  This product provides S&C’s field-proven UPS technology applied to projects that require battery run-times in excess of one minute.

Reliable Engine Starting

Backup DG Sets are the last line of defense against a total AC failure. However, it is observed that they may not operate on demand due to problems in the batteries, maintenance issues etc. Similarly fire engines are considered a very critical fire safety protection in such installations.

Aartech’s KranKing Utlracapacitors can provide reliable engine starting solutions to ensure robust electrical support to the batteries at the time of engine cranking. A portable jump start system can also effectively provide for an arrangement to support the operations of multiple DG sets in a DG plant.

W

Load Limiting

The control arrangementsin the industry are naturally elaborate and extensive. Usually, circuit faults in the control wiring are handled by use of HRC fuses or MCBs. Both require manual intervention for restoration.

Aartech’s load limiter system solutions in the form of Load Checker can act as an automatic resettable control fuse and thus provide for minimum downtime and repair/replacement costs and efforts.
