Aartech’s offerings to the Railways Sector

– Railways Sector

Thanks for your interest in Aartech’s offerings to the railways sector. Whether you are a railway equipment manufacturer, consultant, EPC contractor, project planner, system integrator or research / design / operation / maintenance / testing / commissioning engineer, we hope that you find our solutions of interest and look forward to hear from you.

The railway sector offers one of the most economic and practical means of mass public transportation and goods transport without being dependent excessively on transportation fuel.

Reactive Power Compansation

Railways traction substations take utility feed and are required to draw power under tightly regulated conditions. The fluctuating reactive power requirement of a moving train requires precise and fast compensation to avoid breaching the imposed limits.

Aartech is associated as a value added system integrator with M/s S&C USA for their PureWave DSTATCOM , a proven power quality product with a large and successful installation base worldwide.

S&C’s PureWave DSTATCOM Distributed Static Compensator is a fast-compensating reactive power source that is applied on the transmission or distribution system to reduce voltage variations such as sags, surges, and flicker, along with instability caused by rapidly varying reactive power demand. PureWave DSTATCOM can also help provide quick recovery for the transmission system after contingency events such as loss of part of the system or individual equipment.

Reliable Engine Starting

Railways have a large number of diesel powered locomotives to service UN-electrified lines and for local shunting operations. It is common to see shunting locomotives running at idle for extended duration’s at stations, primarily because it is considered too “risky” to shut them down. The fuel consumption and maintenance on account of soot accumulation during idling is a major operational and maintenance expense apart from the pollution that is also considered unacceptable.

Aartech’s KranKing Utlracapacitors can provide reliable engine starting solutions to ensure robust electrical support to the batteries at the time of engine cranking. A portable jump start system can also effectively provide for an arrangement to support the operations of multiple locomotive engines in a yard / workshop.

Load Limiting

Railways need to equip their customers with easy access to charging their electronic peripherals but simultaneously need to restrict the user from powering higher loads. A rugged, low cost device installed with each access point can suitably address this need.

Aartech offers industry rugged LoadChecker solutions to these issues with low rating (< 100W) load limiters at a very affordable cost which are field proven with 1000’s in service.

Puls Power

Braking energy typically lost in heat by way of braking resistors can be stored for reuse with the concept of regenerative braking. This facility can particularly be of use in railways for suburban metro networks by providing onboard or stationary systems for effective capture, conversion and deployment of braking energy. FaraDigm® Ultracapacitors provide a effective battery replacement / backup arrangement technically optimized for such pulse power requirements with smaller weight, volume and footprint – important considerations for such applications.

FaraDigm® Ultracapacitors have proven performances for such applications with numerous advantages over battery based systems.

Control & Automation

Aartech’s Control & Relay Panels (CRP) SSD is organized to offer specialized custom built, integrated software engineered solutions involving aspects of protection, metering, communications and control for distributed automation, SCADA and remote telemetry based control and automation solutions.
